| Accept the things you can’t change |
|
There are certain events in everyone’s lives that bring much stress, but sadly cannot be changed or avoided. Events like the death of a loved one, a serious illness, a global recession are all stressful but they cannot be avoided. In stressful times such as these don’t try to swim against the current by bemoaning your situation. The best way to cope is to accept what is. It may be difficult but it will be the first step in moving past the stress. Many things in life are beyond our control— particularly things like illness, death and the behavior of others. Stressing over these things will solve nothing. Instead of doing that, focus on the things you do have control over such as your attitude to the problems. When these major life challenges present themselves, view them as learning opportunities that will make you wiser and stronger. Remember that a trouble shared is a trouble halved. Don’t bottle up your feelings inside, talk to someone you trust. Just being able to express what you’re going through can be very therapeutic, especially when there’s nothing you can do to alter the stressful situation. Finally accept the fact that we live in an imperfect world. You will make mistakes and so will those around you. Learn to let go of anger and resentments. Stressing over such things will only make you feel more stressed and depressed. Free yourself by forgiving not only other people but yourself as well. This is the only way to de-stress and move on. |
