Tristan Coopersmith knows the ups, downs and round and rounds of relationships. Coopersmith, an accomplished author, personal relationship coach, writer and self defined "love stylist," leverages her keen sense of behavioral and relationship insight to help women embrace the emotionally fraught relationship process with optimism, clarity and confidence so that they can enjoy the journey of dating and be successful in it.
With an abundance of personal experience, behavioral expertise and unique research methods, coupled with her sassy and honest writing style, Coopersmith was well equipped to pen her first tome; MENu DATING: Taste Test Your Way to the Main Course (St. Martins). Her unique philosophy and engaging style – a "girlfriend-to-girlfriend approach, MENU DATING has appealed to thousands of women everywhere since its publication in August 2009. Establishing her as an insightful dating expert, the guidebook, which includes boy's eye views written by Coopersmith's best friend Todd Johnson, is a 5-phase program, a boot camp, that re-programs the way women think about dating. Instead of approaching dating as a means to a marriage end, MENu DATING readers learn to love dating for the natural adventure that it is supposed to be; A veritable tapas bar of flavorful experiences and lessons.
Having received an overwhelming response to the advice in her book, Coopersmith was inspired to share her knowledge further – as a personal Love Stylist – and help put an end to the biggest mistakes women make in dating, such as 1) Unintentionally hanging up a "closed for business" sign, 2) Loving in the future, 3) Searching for Prince Charming, or 4) Man Baiting – i.e. marketing themselves as what they think a guy wants. "It's like wearing a padded bra," jokes Coopersmith. "When a guy finally discovers it, his reaction is, 'Hey! That's not what you sold me." Rejecting traditional timelines ("All my friends my age are getting married!"), and instead adopting experience lines, Coopersmith also guides women toward greater independence in finding and dating worthy “mandidates" and creating enriching experiences.
In addition to her guidance in the trials and tribulations of dating, Coopersmith, extends her expertise into the areas of maintaining a successful, happy marriage and surviving a breakup – for which she recently co-founded The BreakUP Club a support group meets workshop experience for individuals working through heartbreak.
A self-described "curious, open-minded, vivacious girl," Coopersmith says she has always been “experimental by nature," with her dating life reflecting this lifestlye. During her childhood in Washington, DC, she was positively affected by the divorce of her parents, later their successful remarriages ("I got to see one really screwed up marriage, then two great ones"). Her college experience also revealed a desire to try different experiences: beginning as a journalism major at New York University, transferring to the University of Maryland, trying her hand at art school, and eventually graduating in 1998 from the University of Washington with a double major in New Media Studies and Urban Cultural Studies.
Unsure where her degree might be applied in the professional world, but blessed with a social nature and keen mind for detail, Coopersmith landed the prestigious position of manager of trendspotter marketing & research at Teen People magazine in New York followed by a role as director of marketing and market research at Columbia Records. This led her to Los Angeles and The Intelligence Group (part of CAA) where she held the position as executive director and became a respected market trendcaster and brand strategist by identifying what young people care about, the shifting ways they consume brands and culture, and what resonates authentically with them. In the midst of all these accomplishments, Coopersmith has also made a name for herself as a regular relationship writer for several substantial websites which have featured more than 70 of her published articles.
In addition to her daily "love styling" tasks, article writing, BreakUP Club counsel, and occasional event and radio hosting, Coopersmith maintains her blog, is working on her second full length book due out late 2011 and finds time to attend graduate school for Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University.
Having found her own relationship bliss, Coopersmith resides in Los Angeles with her “main course," (husband) former professional hockey player Jason Doig
